Olives are great evergreen trees with attractive, silver-grey foliage and a grey trunk which becomes gnarled and dark with age.

KEY FEATURES Green fruit which ripen to red or black through summer and autumn are produced.
GROWING CONDITIONS Olives require full sun, and are tolerant of a wide range of well drained soils.
They will tolerate a coastal position, drought and a light frost.
They will not tolerate water logged soil.
PLANT CARE Although olives are drought tolerant, they require watering during the flowering period and fruit development.
Apply a fertiliser high in nitrogen in autumn and spring.
